St Hywyn
church Aberdaron dates back to the 12th century, and was at one
time a considerable distance from the sea. A new Church was built in 1841
on higher ground to the North of the village, due to the sea threatening
the old church, but the parishioners were not happy with it, so they left
and repaired the old church for use again. Several sea walls have been
built in the last hundred years, the last one in 1998.
St Hywyn was
restored in 1906 and again over the last two years, and was re opened in
July 2006.
